Vriendelijke
groet, Beste

Boonekamp,
directeur Patricia Questionnaire's are always a little restrictive for you to express your views but yes, we had an excellent time. We gained memories and experiences that will always stay with us. This is largely due to your excellent site staff and the efficient service you yourself provided. It was also a bonus to meet with Karel and hear first hand how he built, runs and is expanding Kabalebo in such a remote area. I wish you all the best for what I believe will be a very bright future. Peter Schultz Dear Kabalebo When I first planned our trip to Kabalebo Nature Resort, I didn't know what to expect. Very few US anglers have fished in Suriname. It turned out that this was a trip of a lifetime! The Kabalebo river is located in southwestern Suriname, about a 45 minuteflight from the capital city Paramaribo. This area is pristine rainforestfor hundreds of miles in every direction, the only human presence being in the resort that was created by owner Karel Dawson.Upon arriving at Kabalebo we were greeted by an extremely friendly staff and owner, who were eager to help and answer any question we had. After a short pause for lunch, we loaded our equipment on a 40 foot dugout canoe and started on a journey upriver that would take four hours. The Kabalebo river flows like a mountain steam and has multiple rocky out croppings that were carefully navigated by a very competent staff. The first thing I noticed, was the lushness of the rainforest on both sides of the river. This beautiful setting was rounded out by the abundant life we witnessed. On our trip up river we saw and were able to photograph a magnificent Harpy Eagle, dozens of Toucans and Macaws as well as two Tapirs that were swimming across the river. Never before had I seen such abundant life on my trips to the rainforest! We set up camp on a high bluff at the edge of the river. Our accommodations consisted of camping style tents that were set up next to an area where Karel Dawson is building a camp that will have four rooms, running water andactual beds for future guests. My fishing buddy David Harris and I went prepared to fish for Giant Trahiras (Aimara or Wolf fish) and both types of large catfish, the Red tail and the Sorubim (Rayado Catfish). We were not disappointed. David and I had a wonderful 5 days catching multiple large Wolf fish and Cat fish. At the end of our trip we had caught wolf fish up to 18 lbs. and cat fish up to 79 lbs. We also returned home with nine world record applications on light, heavy line and fly. The best time to fish for the wolf fish on top water and fly is when the water is low. The catfish are so abundant that you probably can find them at any time of the year. I am planning on a return trip this next October when the water is low and the wolf fish will be very aggressive and there should be even more wildlife to see. Best regards, Martin |
